Language Background

The Air Force and Culture and Language Center's Language Branch focuses on general purpose Airmen - Airmen who are not language professionals by trade but who may still require some degree of language instruction. The recent addition of a permanent Defense Language Institute Language Training Detachment at Maxwell AFB assists the Language Branch develop and sustain foreign language skills through Professional Military Education familiarization courses for roughly 500 officers a year at Air University, basic instruction in Expeditionary Skills (ES) training, and advanced initiatives such as the Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP).
